Kendal Calling have announced their first wave of artists for 2018’s festival, with The Libertines, Catfish and The Bottlemen, Run DMC and Shed Seven penned to headline the festival.
The Libertines, headed by Pete Doherty and Carl Barat, have rarely been far short of the limelight. A gig at Tranmere Rovers’ Prenton Park last year was a landmark music-political moment, and they will be one of the biggest names to come to the Lake District.
They’ll be joined by Catfish and The Bottlemen, who’ve climbed up the festival billing after slots in previous years. With bags of sellout shows across the country and a loyal army of fans, there’s sure to be inflatable crocodiles galore against the Lake District sky.
The third headliners are Run DMC, the Queens hip-hop band were formed in 1981 and reached commercial success with their 1986 album Raising Hell. They’re hip-hop royalty and a huge name for the fields.
Hacienda Classical will open up the festival on Thursday night, and they’ll be joined by Peter Hook, who’ll also feature with The Light over the course of the weekend.
Shed Seven, who released their 5th studio album in the form of Instant Pleasures last year. It completes a strong indie lineup that is bound to get people through the gates early. The Sheds’ most recent UK tour asserted them back at the top of their game.
Manchester legends James will also appear at the festival, with 14 studio albums to their name they are a stellar festival band. They last appeared at the festival at KC’s 10th anniversary in 2016. Tim Booth and co. have dazzled the Lake District crowd in previous years and are set to do again with huge tunes such as Sit Down, Laid and Come Home.
Also on the bill are Ocean Colour Scene, The Sherlocks, White Lies, The Wailers, Declan Mckenna, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Lucy Spraggan, The Amazons, Tom Grennan, Slow Readers Club, Peter Hook & The Light, Marmozets, Pale Waves, Idles, Dub Pistols, Trampolene, The Lucid Dream, The Clone Roses, Hollie Cook, Sam Fender, Black Honey, Pins, The Blinders, Jordan Allen, Anteros, Yonaka, Trudy & The Romance, Bang Bang Romeo and more.
